Transcripts

There is no requirement under the law to create a transcript for your homeschool student. However, colleges and some employers often require one as a part of an application process.

Generally, a transcript is meant to be a summary of subjects studied, grades received, and credits earned. Creating your child’s transcript is one of your  responsibilities as a homeschool administrator. It is also your opportunity to consider your child’s goals, and tailor your homeschool transcript to suit them. Most post-secondary opportunities will have guidance for the kind of transcript they want. Read and follow their instructions carefully for the best results.

Some homeschoolers use state guidelines to inform how they write their transcript, some will format their transcript based on what colleges are looking for, while others will create a format which suits their needs. There are many examples of transcripts online. There are also many ways to supplement a transcript, for example through letters you write in your school administrator role, to application essays, to portfolios of work. Pay attention to these opportunities to advocate for your homeschooler.

Testing is not required under Wisconsin law, and reporting standardized test scores to the state is not required by Wisconsin law. If your child takes standardized tests (such as PSAT, ACT, SAT, CLEP), they will need to follow the directions of each institution requesting their scores.
